Little Miss HISTORY Travels to
USS SLATER Destroyer Escort

By Barbara Ann Mojica (Author), Victor Ramon Mojica (Illustrator)

The USS Slater Museum is a floating museum in Albany, New York. It is the last Destroyer Escort remaining in the United States and is the only one of its kind still afloat. The USS Slater was built in 1944 and is a memorial to the thousands of Destroyer Escorts and their crews who served during World War II. The museum offers visitors the opportunity to tour the ship, view exhibits, and learn about the history of Destroyer Escorts. Visitors can explore the ship, view World War II artifacts, and learn more about the crew and their mission. The museum also offers educational programs and special events, such as a Memorial Day flag ceremony and a living history program. The USS Slater is a unique and powerful reminder of the sacrifices of those who served in World War II.

Review by MRS.D.

“Little Miss History Travels to USS Slater Destroyer Escort” just joined The Little Miss History series of children’s books! Congratulations to Barbara and Victor Mojica as well as to those who’ve had the pleasure of reading every book written by this talented team, as my grandson and I have. Like their other children's books on history, this new book is educational, fun, and well presented. The creative mix of illustrations and real pictures introduces a young reader to history in a striking way.

The storyline is engaging and interesting. It takes us to the Hudson River in Albany to a famous American landmark, the USS Slater Destroyer Escort. The ship is a floating historical museum that was restored and now is kept up by devoted volunteers and veterans. During World War II this warship was used to protect and defend our land from its enemies.

Through the beautiful artwork and clever storyline, Little Miss History is introducing readers to exciting facts about the sailors who lived and served on the destroyer, the weapons they used, surveillance equipment, navigation system, and much more.

It is a captivating tour! The interior of the ship, the kitchen, the sleeping quarters, the machinery, and even the gear shift will spark an interesting conversation in schools, libraries, and homes.

This history book digs into the history of a World War II destroyer, supplying information ranging from the upper decks all the way down to the lower sections. It also sheds light on the difficult challenges that the crew faced in high seas.

The engaging narrative. Mixed methods and amazing illustrations. The past and new technology. All these aspects made this historical book captivating and really stimulating. Children of any age will enjoy it.

Forgotten Christmas Tree: Published!

A fun holiday children's book for age 8 and up!

Do you believe in magic?

The little kitten did, because it was the perfect way to start the holiday season.

Christmas is here, and the curious kitten is ready for her first Christmas tree. And when she saw the fresh-cut beauty in the garage, the smitten kitten instantly became its friend. But when the tree was moved into the house, something unusual happened. The newcomer was not the only Christmas tree in the garage.

To the kitten’s big surprise, a forgotten plastic tree fell off a shelf to the garage floor. And that’s when the real magic began. Then mystic characters transformed that plastic tree into a real Christmas beauty.

The Day Before Thanksgiving: Published!

A Thanksgiving feast for age 8 and up!

Happy day before Thanksgiving … or maybe not so much for the old cat, who finds himself in a sticky situation with the wild turkeys running loose in the garden. As the little kitten watches the falling leaves through the window, the old cat’s hunting goes very bad. With some surprised gobbles here and some angry gobbles there, the turkeys teach the old hunter a good lesson: No matter how big you are, there’s always someone bigger.

This book is based on a true story that the little kitten and Mrs. D witnessed the day before Thanksgiving.

Meet Kitten In The Window!New Release!

Children's book for age 8 and up!

Everyone is unique and different. Tiny or huge, furry or hairless, walking or swimming, talking or singing, colorful or colorless, they all want to be accepted the way they are.

The kitten, which was born in a large litter, does not look anything like the rest of her family. She’s a calico cat with many colors in her fur—very different from what she imagined in her dreams. But regardless of her disappointment, the calico kitten learned that each living thing on this planet has its own individuality that should be celebrated.

This inspiring and brightly illustrated children’s book promotes love, acceptance, and the beauty of uniqueness.
Being different is perfectly okay and cool!

CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT? NOT THIS ONE...

This imaginative tale introduces young readers to a kitten and explores her experiences as she develops from a new born into a young, playful and curious cat! Each aspect of her development is filled with intrigue and entertainment as she discovers more about the world around her. Unlike her mother and other siblings, the realisation that her colouring is different from them causes her much distress but her mother is quick to offer reassurance that despite their difference in colouring, she is nonetheless a special cat – a Calico cat. And a fiercely independent one at that.

Her shenanigans unfortunately land her into trouble from time to time and she finds herself eventually being taken away from her mom and brothers. But this feisty and determined beauty doesn’t give up easily and you find yourself rooting for her as she gets into all kinds of mischief and breathing a sigh of relief as she manages to scrape through it all.

Eventually she comes upon Mrs. D. and her family who are immediately taken with her. Despite poor Mr. D’s suffering with cat allergies, they take her in and name her Nyda. But before long, Nyda can’t ignore the urge to go off exploring again and this brings forth more adventures for young readers to enjoy.

This is a beautiful and entertaining story that has been creatively written and will bring much joy to young readers.

Even if you dislike cats, you will fall in love with this one. Nyda, an adorable calico cat, charms the reader with tales that are humorous, enchanting, and fun. Readers follow her adventures from the time of her birth. She is the first to climb out of the box, daring her brothers to follow her. Told in the first person, the personification is spot on, allowing the reader to experience the world through the eyes of a cat.

This kitten is curious, intelligent, and fearless. That leads to trouble. Nyda just wants to be friends with the creatures around her, but she has a knack for doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. She breaks things and trespasses on their territory. Soon she finds herself separated from her family.

Nyda’s new owner lives in an apartment where she feels imprisoned. When Nyda jumps from the balcony, her adventures become a test for survival. As she navigates the outdoor world, she meets other creatures, friends, and foes until she comes across a family and Mrs. D, the owner she truly falls in love with.

I will not reveal all of Nyda’s adventures or secrets. Middle-grade, young adult, and adult readers will be fascinated by the world seen through the eyes of a feline. Beautiful illustrations add charm and even more personality to the stories.

I received an advance copy from the publisher and voluntarily agreed to read and review it with my honest opinions for no compensation.
